Framing Your Picture Frame and other Mind Framing Thoughts

A picture frame is so simplistic in form and is in itself a work of art. Basically a frame is just four equally sized pieces of some material cut and bound together with a protective covering of glass or Plexiglas inside its simple framework. Of course there are more complicated issues surrounding the picture frame such as mounting your picture inside of it, but the idea of the frame is simple. You can make more ornate frames with wood, and can even make frames with different materials too. If you want to know a little more about how to make a frame, places to purchase them and the different types of frames then read on. Making a Frame – for Dummies

Making a simple picture frame requires few tools and a little patience. Once you get the hang of making them you can graduate to more elaborate types of frame work such as cutting detailed scrolls onto your frame. The tools required to make one are:

- Pencil
- Note pad
- Retractable Tape Measure
- Knife
- Miter Saw
- Tack Gun
- Tape

After cutting the frame to your desired size all you have to do is put some wood glue on the corners and place temporary tape to hold the frame in place. Reposition if necessary after tape is wrapped around corners. Next, to bind the frame tighter position wood clamps at corners and let sit over night, so the glue can dry and the seal can tighten. After drying loosen the clamps and tape, and scrape off any excess glue that may have leaked from corners. Your now ready to add your tacks to the corners to bind the separate pieces together, and if desired you can paint or stain your wood picture frame.

Buying Retail – Cost and Type

If you’re short on time there are a lot of different places that you can purchase a picture frame at. Any discount store such as Wal Mart will have a lot of frames to choose from. Specialty frame shops will give you a higher quality frame if you can do that, such as Send A Frame and Frame Company have stores all over the US. Check your local phone book listings. Traditional wood types used for frames are pine or cherry, and typically run from $20.00 and up beginning with a size of 4 x 6. Higher grade woods such as palmwood are custom cut and for a 24 x36 you can expect to pay a couple of hundreds to few thousands. The standard shaped frames are horizontal, vertical, round, square, and oval. Other material types are plastic, marble, copper, tin, and sterling silver make a beautiful picture frame. If you decide to make your own or just buy ready made off the shelf you’ll have lots of choices to find you perfect frame.
